Library Mission Statement
This web page is intended to supply the Saint Denis Community with superior access to information resources.

Services
Saint Denis School Library has networked computers available for the students to use in the library. The PCs provide access to the Internet and also the school network. The library is located adjacent to the computer lab. The lab has 33 PCs with Internet and school network access.
Children from Kindergarten to Eighth grade have access to the library and are taught library skills. Children in K through fourth grade attend the library weekly. They may check out a book for a period of one week.
Students from fifth through eighth attend library weekly. They may check out two books for a period of two weeks. .
Children in the PRE-K 3 and 4s program make weekly visits to the library for story time.

On-Line Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
A catalog of the Saint Denis Library holdings which is available from every computer in the school.

ACCESS PA/POWER Library
All persons from Pennsylvania who hold a valid public library card may access these databases. From any computer with internet access please type www.powerlibrary.net and click on Find a Power Library. Click on the county your library is in. Find your library and click on it. Enter the barcode on the back of your public library card (should be 14 digits).  Here are a few of the databases:
  • EBSCOhost- a complete periodical database
  • AP Associated Press Photo Archive an archive of 500,000 current and historical
    photographs
  • Funk and Wagnall’s New World Encyclopedia
  • SIRS Discoverer Deluxe-A reference tool for young adults
     
Citing Works in Research Papers

The MLA (Modern Language Assessment) has published its guidelines in the MLA Handbook for writers of Research Papers (for high schools and undergraduate college students). Students should also reference the Writing Research Paper: A Complete Guide by James D. Lester and D. Lester, Jr.
Both of the above mentioned are available in the library for reference.

Evaluating Information on a Web Site

Students and faculty need to evaluate the web page that you will use for your information. Some questions you should ask:

When was the page created?
Has it been updated recently?
Does the author have credentials on the subject?
